Aspiro uses Transition Camps through out the state of Utah.

When participants first arrive, they may spend several days in transition camp doing an orientation and acclimation processes.

During this time, the participant’s physical, emotional and behavioral readiness for their first back-country expedition will be observed. Upon initial arrival to an Aspiro transition camp the participant will be issued all clothing, equipment, toiletries, and accessories that he or she will need throughout the entire program. An eight week supply of medication, contacts/glasses, retainers, and/or inhalers are the only belongings required upon arrival.

Every one to two weeks, participants return to one of our transition camps to get re-outfitted for the coming week’s expedition.

While in transition camp, the student group may engage in individual and group therapy, journal writing, letter writing, academic work, and teaching stations designed to prepare students for the upcoming expedition.

While students are in transition camp, they engage in a variety of activities that may include:

  • children, state parks, Utaheating Dutch oven meals
  • participating in transition camp school
  • completing school assignments
  • re-supplying for next weeks expeditions
  • participating in therapy sessions
  • interacting in group sessions
  • participating in performance reviews (treatment team)
  • receiving health and hygiene checks

Out of all the activities in transition camp, students report that their favorite activities are eating home-cooked meals and getting mail from their families.

The Aspiro Adventure Transition Camp is home to deer, elk, moose, golden eagles and many other wildlife.
